Karla Jensen, Tennis Beauty

The young tennis champ serves up her game-changing beauty routines and every-day hair tips.

Describe your skin care routine.

I play tennis every day so it’s important I cleanse properly. I wash my face every morning and evening with mild soap from Aesop. It’s actually body soap, but it’s so gentle and non-drying that I use it on my face. Last year, my skin really played up so I now gravitate towards mild formulas and non-greasy creams. At the moment I use Ultra Facial Cream from Kiehl’s by day and Aesop’s Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream at night.

Do you wear make-up?

Not yet. At least not since my skin started playing up. I tried to cover spots with concealer and foundation but the more I did, the worse the outbreaks became. My skin is much better now, especially since I started cleansing twice a day. I curl my eyelashes and put lip balm on my brows and lashes to make them glossy.
How do you care for your hair?

I wear it up every day, as I don’t like it loose. My mum’s a hairdresser and has taught me how to braid my hair and style it. I often twist it up into a loose ballet bun. My hair is quite thick so it’s easy to work with. I don’t use styling products, and wash my hair every second or third day. My mum works with the brand Kevin Murphy so we always have tons of shampoo and conditioner at home. My favourite is Maxi. Wash Detox Shampoo. It carefully cleanses my hair, leaving it light and manageable. I shave my legs a few times a week, using shampoo foam instead of shaving foam––it’s gentler on my skin. I use conditioner after every hair wash. My current favourite is Angel.Rinse, it smells nice and doesn’t weigh down my hair.

Which perfumes do you wear?

I love perfumes from Chloé and Marc Jacobs. I bought a box of four different mini Chloé perfumes when I was on holiday in Berlin. They have a mild yet warm scent that reflects the packaging. My two favourites are Chloé Love and Roses De Chloé. I’ve started wearing deodorant every day but avoid supermarket aerosols. My mum gifted me Tromborg’s Herbal Cream Deodorant, and I also love Weleda’s Wild Rose Deodorant. It’s gentle on the skin and leaves me smelling and feeling fresh all day.

What attracted you to tennis?

I play tennis on weekdays at Hellerup Sports Club. On Mondays I coach four young girls. I don’t play as many tournaments as I used to, but still play team matches with friends. We recently won the Zealand Championship. Tennis isn’t a part of my future plan; it’s a fun hobby that keeps me in shape. I sometimes get tired of it, especially when my friends who don’t play have plans that I can’t participate in. But then I think about the exercise I’m getting, and all of my friends at the club.
