The Brazilian Bombshell – By Malene Birger

Lustworthy sexiness combined with sleek hair and sweaty skin took centre stage at the By Malene Birger SS18 show during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Sine Ginsborg, key makeup artist for L’Oréal Paris, took her cue from creative director Christina Exsteen’s fascination with São Paulo and the stark contrast between the concrete architecture of the city and the lush, wild jungle. Ginsborg created a look that was sensual yet not overly done and easy to accomplish in everyday life. Wash Your Face caught up with her backstage to get the lowdown on the look and how to recreate it.

Tell us a bit about your thoughts behind the look?

It’s a really sweaty, sexy look so it was important to ensure it never became a parody of the early ‘00s Glamazon trend. I wanted it to be contemporary with fresh, clean skin, layers and layers of my favourite Volume Million Lashes So Couture mascara, and vibrant nails in bright red and orange. Sexy but not too in your face.

Did you have a particular muse in mind when creating the look?

I think the power of this look suits all ages but is particularly flattering on strong, classic beauties like Helena Christensen, Gisele Bündchen and Amber Valetta. The look is very revealing so it’s important to start with a clear, blemish-free complexion before building the glossy post-gym effect.

How do I take this look from the catwalk to the sidewalk?

I would save it for a garden party or music festival. It’s not exactly your usual Monday morning make-up look, but if you tone down the glossiness, amp up the highlights and recreate the layered mascara and the matchy-matchy nail polish, you can’t go wrong.
